It's Hard to Believe That I use a Helicopter to Get to Work!

This was the view over the Plateau from Woop Woop (This is where the two Casa aircraft will be based for the Summer operations. It will be their runway!). It is a long way away and I had to look at all of the terrain to take up the groomer and a Haggland. You'd spend hundreds and thousands doing what I have done in a week in Antarctica. love it!

Aerial views are a great way to suss out which way you are going to go. We just stopped in all the dangerous spots for the vehicles and went and walked it! Giving it a good probing makes everyone feel more confident!

Today was a real struggle as we had to use the Helicopter for the first time. This will be the main form of transport for me over the Summer when the Sea Ice breaks out. Well Choppa out and walk back! Don't worry about the tax payers as I am paying enough tax for a whole workplace to make up for it.

  1. Hi Dave. Reading this at work in Singapore at 7.00am. Had a sleepover here (at school) last night - kids doing a performance training camp - one more night on a stretcher bed - teaching story telling workshops today. Well what an amazing adventure you are having!! Looks and sound sensational. Love the way you get the titles on the photos have to tell me how to do that - nice shots too. We are now officialy on holidays - though Singaporeans don't seem to take them - just keep going into work. Xavier has been in Bangkok for the weekend playing in a soccer tournament and apparently had to pull a kid (who couldn't swim) out of a pool - so came home a bit shell shocked. Felicity and the boys are heading to Melb on Friday night for a month and I am off to China next Tuesday for 3 weeks. Flying in to Guangzhuo and travelling round some minority areas and national parks.Winter has struck in China and is apparently very cold there - after a year here it will feel a bit wierd experiencing the cold. Will add to the blog as I go. I enjoyed reading about the sessick bit - I have a cast iron stomach generally but that voyage looked very testing -to say the least!! Best of luck with rest of summer in the big A. Great reading and visuals - an experience of a lifetime- something to show your grandchildren!! Keep up thegreat work on the blog - you won't regret it when you get back. Enjoy!! Bryan

  2. Thanks Bryan, it is great to get the update and it sounds as though you and the family have been having a great time yourselves. All off to do your own things and then back together. What a rich experience for you and the kids! I get the captions over the photos using Picasa. You can select photos from you folders in Picasa then go to the File command and export them to a folder you nominate (this makes them smaller so they are faster to get on your blog and gives you the option of putting on a watermark)! Enjoy the wintery national parks in China.
